Dear Student, Parents and Community Members April 21,2020
I hope this letter finds everyone safe and well. As most heard during Governor Dewine’s daily press conference, we will not be bringing back students to school. That announcement brings many questions which I will try to address. While we understand that this announcement is upsetting to some, we understand the concern for the health and wellbeing of the community.
Do we have to make up these days?
The answer is No. With teachers providing three days of work per week since the week after Easter we will meet the minimum hours needed so make up days are not needed. It is important that students keep up with assignments and submit them to the teacher. We would prefer you submit them electronically by either google classroom or scanning/taking a picture and emailing directly to your teacher. For those who this is not possible, they can be turned in and we will scan and email them to the teacher. There is a drop box in the same location where the homework pick up is. This process is much slower and as a result your teacher may contact you if you have not turned something in.
Teachers will continue to provide work through the week of May 12th. The week of May 18th will be used for all students to make sure they have all work finished and turned in.
End of the Year Activities
There are many activities that take place at the end of the year; graduations, promotions, award ceremonies, prom etc. At this time we will continue to follow the Governor's direction and work with staff to develop safe ways to hold as many of these activities as possible. Some events possibly have numerous restrictions, others may be postponed and some may be cancelled.
Spring Sports Season
The OHSAA announced Monday night that the Spring Sports season and tournaments will be cancelled for the 2020 season. The use of our facilities will continue to be closed throughout the Month of May to use by outside groups or individuals. The track is open for walking/ running. We would ask that you respect the social distancing guidelines.
Return of School Materials
Some have asked how to return school materials. We are currently working on a plan to be able to collect items such as books and chromebooks while allowing students to clean out their lockers. There will be additional information coming on this as we get closer to the end of the school year and have additional guidance at that time. We also know that it is important to give the seniors the opportunities to walk the halls one last time.
We will continue to provide student meals as we have to this point. Students are able to get a week's worth of breakfasts and lunches. All students qualify for this service. Meal pick up is on Mondays from 10:00-11:30 at the Elementary School side parking lot. To be added to the list to receive meals, call the District office (740-984-2373) to be added to the list. If you are unavailable to pick up during this time, please let Mrs. Close know and we can make arrangements.
In the weeks ahead, the administration, staff and teachers will be planning for the future and what that will look like. We know that when we reopen, things will be different than what they have been in the past. We will look for guidance on what social distancing may still be in place in the fall and how that will look in our schools. We know that there will be new daily practices in place regarding cleaning and disinfecting classrooms and busses to ensure safety. At this time we are unsure what recommendations will be made for the opening in the fall. Please know that we are all working together to do what is best for the students and the staff of Wolf Creek Local.
